SPC Blood Drive

GIVING HEALTH AND LIFE IN JESUS NAMEThe American Red Cross is the nonprofit provider of blood products to area hospitals. The majority of this blood comes from blood drives organized by groups such as SPC. By giving blood with the American Red Cross, SPC supports patients in need throughout greater Richmond, every day of the year. It’s an excellent way for us to give life and health to our community in Jesus’ name.THERE’S NO SUBSTITUTE FOR BLOODWhen a patient receives blood, it was given in advance by a generous donor. Every day, blood donors help patients of all ages: accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those battling cancer. In fact, every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood.DONOR REQUIREMENTSTo ensure the safety of both patients and donors, these are some of the requirements donors must meet to be eligible to donate blood based on [...]

FOR SPC EMERGENCY FOOD PANTRY GUESTS • DECEMBER 17 & 23  "For I was hungry and you gave Me food, I was thirsty and you gave Me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed Me, I was naked and you clothed Me, I was sick and you visited Me, I was in prison and you came to Me." Matthew 25:35 & 36 THE MINISTRY OF SPC’S EMERGENCY FOOD PANTRY Jesus taught His followers to demonstrate their faith in Him by loving their neighbors. Our faith and devotion to Him compels us to happily offer food to anyone in need. It is an expression of our love for them as well. At SPC, we distribute food from our pantry to our neighbors in need each week, on the first and third Tuesdays of each month from 1:00 to 2:30 PM and on the second, fourth, and fifth Tuesdays of each [...]

Kurt & Jill: Somewhere • 1/20/20

We set up the hall for our evangelistic Christmas dinner, not sure that many would come on Saturday, December 7. We were encouraged that some church families had invited their neighbors and they came. By the end of the evening, we had set up three extra tables and filled the hall with over 90 people including people from the church. About 25% came for the first time. Kurt explained how Jesus came to be the Good Shepherd we need.  One new Indian couple who attended also came to church the next day with their three teenagers. After the evening service the father said, “We will come every week.” And various ones from the family have been coming ever since as they are able! Other friends and neighbors came to one of our two carol services the past two Sundays.  Before we fly to the USA on Thursday, we will welcome [...]

You don't have to go through it alone. Most people will tell you that separation and divorce are the most painful and stressful experiences they’ve ever faced. It’s a confusing time when you feel isolated and have lots of questions about issues you’ve never faced before. DivorceCare groups meet weekly to help you face these challenges and move toward rebuilding your life. Each session has two distinct elements: A Seminar with Experts During the first 30–40 minutes of the meeting, each DivorceCare group watches a video seminar featuring top experts on divorce and recovery subjects. These videos are produced in an interesting-to-watch television magazine format featuring expert interviews, real-life case studies and on-location video. A Support Group with Focus After viewing the video, DivorceCare group participants spend time as a support group, discussing what was presented in that week’s video seminar and what is going on in the lives of group members. Starts [...]

Tom Smith: ITEM • 1/14/20

In Kenya, ITEM Works to Teach Poor, Uneducated Recently, Daniel Muindi, Director of All Nations College, reported on his school and ITEM's impact in Thika, Kenya and beyond. This is some of what he had to say: With the help of ITEM, All Nations College in Kenya trains pastors and ministry leaders from different and diverse denominations. Most of these pastors enrolled for training have congregations in small towns and villages where economic life is extremely challenging. Many pastors who desire to attend classes can’t even raise $50 for class registration. Many survive on one meal a day. We have three training bases away from our central campus in Thika where ITEM educators stay when they come. These training bases train students who cannot come to Thika due to distance or cost or both. In one of the training centers we pay for translators who help translate ITEM course manuals [...]

Where Do I Belong?

A RETREAT FOR THE WOMEN OF STONY POINT CHURCH Families, jobs and church can fill up a woman’s time and it is hard to feel really connected to God, a spouse, or even meaningful friendships with sisters in Christ. And what should a friendship with a sister in Christ look like? What are the ways that Christ calls us to love each other? Spend a weekend with other ladies of SPC exploring this topic. Martha Furman will be leading our sessions and there will be plenty of time to relax and spend time with each other. OUR SPEAKER Martha Furman is President of Braveheart Grief Ministries, Inc.  She developed and facilitates at Camp Braveheart, a camp for youth dealing with loss and grief. Martha is in private practice at Total Life Counseling, Inc. and facilitates grief support groups for Gentle Shepherd Hospice in Roanoke, Virginia. She is a graduate from Clemson [...]
