SERMON DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Matthew 28:16-20

1. Why do you think the disciples’ hearts were full of sorrow (John 16:4-6)?
2. What do you think was the focus of the disciples? Did they take Jesus’s welfare into consideration John 14:28?
3. In light of the diversity and unity within the Trinity (the Father is the source, the Son is the mediator and the Holy Spirit is the agent bringing the Father’s projects to completion), what significance do you think that brings to being baptized in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit? How should the public statement of the Trinity affect us?
4. Michael Horton wrote: “It is not that the divine persons perform different works, but that they are engaged differently in every work.” On a personal level, have you ever seen that to be true? If so, what were the circumstances where you saw this played out?
5. In his Ascension and sending of the Holy Spirit, Jesus passed the baton to the Church. How do you think you, as an individual, can contribute to the efforts of Stony Point to continue the flow of Redemptive History? Think about the ministry activities of our church. What significance does this truth give to our ministry activities?
6. What do you think it means to be an agent of generative love? Consider John 13:35
7. What do you think Jesus meant when he said that anyone who believes in Him will be able to do greater works than He did? (John 14:12)
8. What does it mean to you, personally, that the Spirit of Truth is with you and lives in you? (John
14:17). How should this affect our day-to-day activities?
9. Have you ever been drawn to participate in a ministry activity for which you felt totally inadequate, and as you accepted the task, found that the Holy Spirit gave you a special enablement? Share you experience with the group.
