SERMON DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Read Romans 12:9-21

  • What first comes to mind when you hear the word, “love”?
  • How would you describe genuine biblical love?
  • Think back through the book of Romans up until this point. What do you think is the foundation for the love in action that is described in this passage? See also 12:1-3
  • Are there two different categories of people we are to love in action described in this passage? If so, who are they and how is the action of love different (if it is different at all)?
  • Out of the list of actions you see in this text, which ones come more naturally for you? Which ones are more difficult? Why?
  • Read verses 14-21 again. What do you think is the ultimate purpose of this type of love in action?
  • Has there been a time when you have found yourself in the circumstances described in verses 14-21. What were your responses? If you were able, by God’s grace, to love in action as described, what was the result for the recipient of that love? What was the result for you?
  • Discuss and describe, if you’d like, but at least take a few moments to think about the specific ways in which you embodied the negative side of what we see in verses 14-21, and how Christ displayed love in action toward you.
  • Take the remainder of the time to praise Him for the specific ways He has loved you with an active love. Also pray for the specific ways in which you need to love in action in your life and circumstances.
