SERMON DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

READ Ecclesiastes 3:1-12, Hebrews 10:11-12, Ephesians 5:14-17

  1. When someone asks you for some of your time, what’s your typical internal reaction? How valuable a commodity to you is your time? What are the 3 top things you spend your time doing?
  2. In Ecclesiastes 3, the writer says that God has given everything in its time, a beauty? What do you think this means? If God is the person who has ordained or ordered your times, how can this be a comfort to you when times are tough?
  3. In Hebrews 10, the writer identifies the focal point of human history at the Cross of Jesus. What did Christ do there to God’s time and what has He done there for ours? Does this change the way you think about the Cross or feel about your remaining time?
  4. In Ephesians 5, Paul tells us to use our time wisely. What’s the reason he gives us for doing that? What is God’s will for the way you spend your time? How do you tend to waste it and how does this passage encourage to spend it wisely?
  5. Thank God for the time you have been given and the times [experiences] that God has given you. Ask Him for the wisdom to use His gift in creative, redeeming and deeply restful ways.
