- What are some of your initial thoughts when entering a discussion on poverty? What is some of the baggage (positive and negative) that you bring to a discussion on poverty?
- What are some things that jump out at you from the Deuteronomy 15 text? Why? Be specific.
- In 15:7-11, there are some very powerful images about the hands and the heart. Why are these images so powerful theologically? Why are they so powerful practically?
- Read 1 John 3:16-17 and James 2:14-17. What bearing, if any, should our own salvation have on our interaction with poverty?
- What are some specific ways in which your life might change if your heartbeat for the poor matched Christ’s?
