SERMON DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

READ Habakkuk 2:2-4, Hebrew 10:37-39, Romans 1:16-18

  1. READ Habakkuk 2:4 aloud. What do you think it means? If you were asked to explain it by analogy to someone asking about faith, what would you say that Habakkuk is saying faith is like?
  2. What do we learn about faith by the contrast in Habakkuk with the unrighteous, puffed-up Babylonians?
  3. READ Hebrew 10:37-39 and Romans 1:16-18. What do these passages say and do you see any differences to Habakkuk 2:2-4?
  4. Do you agree with critics who say that the NT writers have misused the words given to Habakkuk? Reading all three passages, how would you account for the word changes the writer of Hebrews and Paul have made?
  5. Habakkuk 2:4 may be the most verse in both the Old and New Testaments for us. How do we understand righteousness and faith since Martin Luther’s tower experience?
  6. What does Luther’s insight that righteousness and faith are the free gifts God to us that you cannot earn or achieve on your own –  make in your walk of faith today?
  7. “Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!” (2 Cor. 9:15] Spend time in your group thanking God for His loving kindness to us in Jesus Christ.
