SERMON DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
READ Revelation 12:7-11, Jude 1: 1-7
- If someone were to describe the Christian Church as being engaged in a war, what would your response be? Are there ways in which that metaphor is helpful and other ways in which it is not? Making it more personal, are there ways in which following Christ for you is like being in a battle?
- [1-2] Who does Jude say that he is writing to? In what ways are they combatants in a war? Who is the commander and who is the enemy?
- [3-4] Describe in your own words the situation which has caused Jude to stop writing one letter and start writing another? Why does Jude ask his readers to respond urgently and with intense effort to the situation?
- [5-7] Jude offers three historical examples from church history in the Bible. What things do these three examples have in common? What behavior have the three groups of individuals in the examples engaged in? How did God respond in each case?
- Given what he’s written in verses 1-7, what is Jude’s message and to whom has he been directing it, do you think?
- If you had a Christian friend whom you discovered was caught up in some sexual sin, what would you say to them in the light of these verses? How would you warn them? How would you encourage them?
- Pray for our church and the churches of Richmond that the Lord would keep us from sexual sin.
