1. What nuance and detail can the image of a shepherd going after a lost sheep provide as we consider what it means to be lost?
2. What is the context of the parable? (To whom is Jesus speaking and why is that significant)?
3. Is 53:6 says, All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned – every one – to his own way. What are the effects of being lost according to this passage?
4. What evidence do we have of God’s heart for the lost? What does the younger brother understand regarding the nature of his Father? What does the older brother believe about his Father?
5. Jesus rejoices at the saving of the lost while Pharisees grumble. Do you find yourself more often rejoicing or grumbling? Why?
6. Read Luke 15 verses 20-24. Do you tend to view God as this kind of a loving, seeking, celebrating Father or a disappointed dad who wants his children to learn a lesson?
7. Read John 17:18 and ask God to give you a renewed sense of joy in finding the lost and dedication to the task before us.
