SERMON DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

READ Judges 14-15

  1. Which strength of yours might become or has become a weakness?
  2. What does Judges tell us was the source of Samson’s great strength? (Read Judges 13:24-25, 14:6, 19) Is there both accountability and encouragement in knowing that you, despite your own flaws, also have the Spirit of God?
  3. What does Samson mean in 14:3, “she is right in my eyes”? What does this mean against the wider backdrop of the whole book of Judges?
  4. Samson thinks nothing of  assuming the practices of the unbelieving cultures around him (gambling, revenge, handling dead animals, destroying crops, sexual immorality]. In what ways are you pressured to be squeezed into the world’s mold in your own life?
  5. Samson’s ‘weapons’ against the Philistines are unconventional to say the least: foxes and a dead donkey’s jawbone! Why do you think God would work through Samson in this way?
  6. Where do you see glimpses of Christ in this story and what is one thing you will remember as a promise or a warning from it?
  7. Thank God for the gifts He has given you. Ask Him for daily guidance on how best to use them and by trusting His Word, not being tripped up by them.
