Sermon Discussion Questions

Read Psalms 23, 62:1-8, and 46:10

-What are your thoughts so far as we’ve been going through this series on spiritual disciplines in the Psalms? What has stood out to you most?

-What are your initial thoughts on silence and solitude as spiritual disciplines? Have there been things in your life that have shaped that?

-When you read these Psalms, what do they have to do with silence and solitude? Describe, in specific terms from the texts, what our foundation is for silence, solitude, and rest in our lives? In other words, what character traits are described of God that give us that foundation? How does our faith relate to the practice of this discipline?

-What is the ‘noise’ in your life (internal and external) that keeps you from hearing, believing, and resting in that foundation? Why are we so uncomfortable with silence?

-Are there green pastures and quiet waters that you are chasing that are ones in which the Lord is not leading you?

-What do you think you might lose from practicing times of silence and solitude? What do you think you might gain from practicing times of silence and solitude?

-In what ways can you begin to practice this discipline? Be specific.
