Sermon Discussion Questions
READ HOSEA 3
1. Remember a time when someone hurt or betrayed you very badly. Was your first reaction to go to that person in love? Imagine if they hurt you again, would you want to go back to them again? What would you want to do?
Consider then God’s love for us which is the point of this comparison to an unfaithful spouse in Hosea.
2. (1) Is Hosea told to go to another woman or to the same woman again? Does the comparison with the Lord’s love affect how we should understand this?
3. What kind of a situation was Gomer (or this other woman) in, do you think, if Hosea had to buy her back in this way (2), and not for a king’s ransom!?
4. What conditions did Hosea place on his taking her back (3)?
5. By comparison, how does God treat His rebellious people (4)?
6. Reading verses 4-5, can you see ways in which you are living in the days of God’s blessings to you because of Christ? Can you also see ways in which you have forgotten the terms by which He bought you back? (See 1 Corinthians 6:20).
7. Thank God for His grace. Ask His forgiveness for ways in which you have been taking His salvation for granted, and recommit yourself this week to living under His love.
