Aleksei Лаврухин (Aleksei (Alex) Lavrukhin)

Today was the last day of English Club. The team was ready for a well-deserved break, but nevertheless finished strong.

Today we brought car parts to three chaplains of the Ukrainian army, who regularly deliver supplies to the front lines. They then shared with us some stories and told us a bit about what they do. Afterwards we prayed together and took photos.

I  had a 1-on-1 Coffee Time meeting with a Ukrainian student named Yaroslav, who shared about his avid love for coffee and music. Surprisingly, he asked me whether we can do a life-map (a drawing going over a person’s life) before I did, which leads me to think they became famous among English Club participants. In my experience from this, and another 1-on-1 meeting from the day before, Ukrainian students focus a lot on their education. However, I managed to speak about Christianity and being “born again” when demonstrating my life map in both meetings. The first 1-on-1’s Ukrainian, Sandra, even decided she may talk to a local pastor.

The night ended with another successful English and Bible lesson in the B1 (Intermediate) class – in total, students learned about 20 idioms from the English language, practiced tongue twisters,  pronunciation of “th” (which they tend to struggle with due to not having any alternative in their language), greetings, names of health conditions, and more throughout the week.

During the bible lesson section of the night, the groups discussed the provided questions about the Good Samaritan Story. One specific student commented about love being a “limited resource” for humans, which led into a discussion about God’s love being infinite, and how he can give that “resource” to us to give to others. This conversation included a talk about repentance and salvation.
