Psalm 130
My Soul Waits for the Lord
1. What problem is the psalmist facing that causes him to cry out from the depths?
2. Can you relate to the psalmists dilemma of feeling stuck in a pit of your own sin and guilt? Or do you find yourself minimizing the weight of your sin?
3. God knows our every thought. He sees every action. He knows our attitudes and inclinations. He sees our hearts. Take a moment to consider the ways in which we have wronged him or hurt others recently.
4. How does the psalmist begin to ascend from the depths of shame to a place of hope?
5. In light of the opening verses of this psalm, what does it mean to wait on the Lord? Why is it so important that we learn to wait on him? How does this illustration of watchmen help us understand hope?
6. I love the optimism of verse 7: “For with the Lord there is steadfast love, and with him is plentiful redemption.” Do you tend to view his redemption and forgiveness as stingy or plentiful? Why do we tend to assume he is so limited in his redemption?
7. How can the psalmist be so confident in God‘s forgiveness and redemption long before the coming of Christ?
8. How does this psalm preach the gospel to our hearts?
9. Spend some time praying that we would be faithful in waiting on the Lord, trusting the gospel, and looking forward to his return.
