1. This is a story about hearing and understanding. Would you say that in general you are a good listener? When do you struggle to hear others?
2. What are the two main reasons why Jesus teaches in parables? (v. 10-15)
3. How is it that a person is able to hear and understand the message of the kingdom?
4. How is God’s kingdom different from any worldly kingdom? How does it advance?
5. The 4 types of soil can be summarized as:
- A hard heart
- A shallow heart
- A divided heart
- A heart that is receptive to the gospel.
Which type of soil would you say you are?
6. How does Jesus change our hearts into good soil? (answer: he is the master gardener who serves as our substitute on the cross)
7. Who in your life would you love to hear and receive the news of the kingdom? How might God use you to bear fruit for the kingdom?
8. Do you struggle to see the effectiveness of God’s word in your life or the lives of others? read Isaiah 55:6-11. Pray that the kingdom will grow in your heart and be given to others through you.
