SERMON DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

READ Revelation 3:7-13

PHILADELPHIA

  1. Jesus knows this church’s deeds (v.8). As you scan back through this letter, what actions or qualities is Jesus referring to?
  2. An “open door” stands before this group of believers (v. 8). What facts should encourage them to go through the door? What realities might cause them to hesitate?
  3. Recount a time you sensed God opening a door in your life. How did you respond to the situation?
  4. The believers in Philadelphia, like those in Smyrna, faced determined opposition. From whom and why is this important in the letter? What promise does Jesus give them in the light of this (v.9)?
  5. What coming calamity for the world do you think Jesus is referring to in verse 10? What have the believers in Philadelphia already been doing that exempts them from having to go through this trial?
  6. In verse 12 Jesus makes promises to the one who overcomes by faith? Will we overcome by faith in our time, do you think? What will that look like for God’s people here and around the planet?
  7. Thank God that Jesus Christ is the Holy One, the True One, and the One who holds the key to salvation for us and for those that we will bring the gospel to.
