Sermon Discussion Questions
1. What kinds of people are identified in Isaiah 61:1-2 as being the focus of the Messiah’s ministry? Do you see yourself fitting into any of those categories?
2. Share with the group how you have experienced the healing Jesus has brought to you.
3. What is the significance of the description of the Messiah’s ministry in Isaiah and Jesus statement in Luke 4 that on that day Isaiah 61 was fulfilled in their hearing?
4. As Jesus travelled through Galilee he healed many people of all kinds of illnesses and conditions. In Luke 7 it says John the Baptist questioned whether Jesus was the Messiah. Why do you think he questioned?
5. Since Jesus focused on those who were poor, bound, blind and oppressed, and we are to follow in His steps, what service opportunities at Stony Point are available to afford the opportunity to engage with those who are the focus of His ministry?
6. Are you intentional and proactive in engaging with the needy? Discuss in your group how you can include involvement with the needy in your personal agenda.
7. What does the Day of the Lord mean to you? How does it affect the way you conduct yourself in your daily living?
8. I would suggest that each of you listen to the song “Christ is Lower Still” by The Porter’s Gate. (on your own or perhaps even in your group and discuss your take on it.
