Advent Series: The God Who Became Human
John 1:1-14
1. What do the opening verses reveal about Jesus as the Word (Logos)?
2. What does John mean when he writes that the light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it?
3. What are the various ways in which those who live in darkness might reject him? What are the signs that we have rejected him? What are the indicators that we have received him?
4. Verse 14 sheds significant light on the true meaning of Christmas when it says that the Word became flesh and dwelt (literally “tabernacled”) among us. Discuss the significance of these two important words: flesh and tabernacled. Why do you think John chose them specifically?
5. What does verse 14 teach us about the character of God and his love for us in light of the gospel?
6. How was and is Jesus “full of grace and truth?” How might that reality shape our daily lives as we enter this Advent season?
7. Spend some time in prayer that God would give us renewed joy in the incarnation and that he would use us to reflect the light of Christ as we approach Christmas.
