Sermon Discussion Questions

  1. Is God ever to blame for the difficulties we face? Discuss.
  2. READ Hosea 5:13-16
  3. Now revisit question number 1 in the light of what you’ve read. How does that change or reinforce what you have said?
  4. God describes Himself attacking His people, tearing them, carrying them away like a lion would. How does what we read about God’s motive for doing so in verse 15, help us understand what God is doing? How bad are things for Israel that God has to resort to this approach?
  5. Verse 15. Does it seem unfair to you that God may bring difficulty into your life so that “in [your] distress [you] seek [Him]”?
  6. What is your response to God today looking at the difficulties in your life [whether you think He has sent them or not]?
  7. Use Hosea 6:1 as a model for prayer in your own circumstances. As you read and pray these words, focus on God’s objective: it is to heal you. It is to bind you up. “Come, let us return to the LORD; for He has torn us, that He may heal us; he has struck us down, and He will bind us up.”
