SERMON DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
Read 2 Timothy 3:16-17 & 2 Peter 1:12-21
-When reading any text of Scripture, it’s often helpful to read them with 2 Timothy 3:16-17 in mind. We can ask simple questions like this: What does this text teach me about God/mankind? Does this text identify a problem or wrongdoing in my life? Does this text provide a solution and path to change that problem or wrongdoing in my life?
-Work your way through 2 Peter 1:12-21 asking those questions.
-Why is Peter so eager to remind readers of these things and what is necessary to ensure they can recall these truths?
-Why is the eyewitness testimony so important? How does the fact that Jesus’ glory was witnessed by Peter and others strengthen the readers faith? What does this have to say about the reliability of Scripture?
-How does Peter’s own experience of both witnessing Jesus’ glory and denying Him (followed by repentance) speak to the condition of humanity and God’s grace?
-How should the reliability of Scripture impact our view of and obedience to God’s Word?
-What are some practical ways that you stir up your mind to remember important truths from God’s Word?
-What are some specific ways that you can be more intentional about seeking God’s will and living in accordance with His Word?
-Take some time as a group to pray together about the application of the things discussed above.
