SERMON DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
Psalm 84:1 & 2; 84:10 – 12; Psalm 100:1 & 2, 1 Peter 4:8 – 11
1. Who is someone in your life who seems to naturally enjoy serving God and serving others?
2. Does this spiritual discipline come naturally to you or do you find it a bit of a struggle?
3. What does the psalmist mean when he compares the role of a doorkeeper in the house of (his) God to dwelling in the tents of wickedness in Psalm 84:10? How does this help us understand the nature of truly serving God and others? (Leader’s note: Being a doorkeeper is a very lowly and often boring task. Not very glamorous, involves a lot of waiting).
4. Read Ps. 100:1-2. Do you tend to serve with joy and gladness or in reluctance and grumbling? Discuss the connection between worship and serving with gladness. What scenarios make it difficult for you to serve with gladness?
5. Read 1 Peter 4:8-11. How does the gospel re-program our motivations for serving?
6. God has graciously given gifts to all believers which are meant to be used for his glory through Jesus Christ. Where are you on your journey of discovering your own gifts as a member of the body of Christ? Take some time to encourage one another in identifying each other’s gifts in the context of your community group.
7. What causes us to be reluctant in using our gifts more often? Spend some time in prayer that we would have the heart of Christ as we serve others to the glory of God.
