SERMON DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
The issue in chapter 15 is the resurrection of the dead. The Corinthian Christians were as curious and confused about what happens after our earthly lives as we are. In this chapter Paul teaches them that the Resurrection of Jesus far from being a one time or only God event, shows how the Resurrection of Jesus is the guarantee for our lives after death and the pattern for our lives before it.
READ 1 Corinthians 15:12-58
- So where, do you think, that people who have died go, if anywhere?
- Reading 1 Corinthians 15 what link is Paul drawing between the fact of Jesus’ resurrection and the guarantee of ours as believers in Christ?
- What does Paul mean by saying that Christ is the “firstfruits” of those who have fallen asleep (15:20, 23)?
- Paul compares and contrasts Adam and Jesus. How are those two foundational biblical characters alike and how are they different, according to our passage?
- How should belief in the resurrection motivate believers, some of whom may even be killed for their faith (15:31–32)? How should it motivate godly living (15:32b–34)?
- In verse 58, Paul gives a final exhortation that is a powerful conclusion of his entire argument up to this point. What are the four actions and attitudes the Corinthians should possess as a result of the resurrection?
- So would you (have you) staked your life on the fact of the Resurrection? Have you? Pray that you would be faithful this week to live in the truth of it.
