SERMON DISCUSSON QUESTIONS

READ Judges 16

1. Samson is analogous to a believer raised in a Christian home. Does that describe you? What sins do you take lightly? Have you accepted a sub-Christian existence as your norm? What oppressive thing do you need help in overcoming?

2. Do you do what is right in your own eyes? Or do you live to do what is right in other people’s eyes? Give examples of how you have turned from such a way of life to seek what is right in God’s eyes.

3. How do you respond when you feel slighted? Do you justify your bad behavior by others’ prior bad behavior? What does such a response get you?

4. Samson was stupid for sex. What allurements and temptations make people forget their holy calling and cause you to stumble? What comes of this? What steps does it take to halt this pattern?

5. Even though God will accomplish his purposes through a Spirit-endowed person, sin still has consequences. What consequences of sin have you experienced? What have you learned as a result?

6. Where does God set the bar for you, as a person endowed with the Spirit? In what ways are you a lamp on a hill, blazing with light?

7. This larger than life story also has elements to it that hit close to home. When it comes to temptation someone has described what the Bible promises us: “The way of escape is to go before the throne of grace and pray for grace in time of need; in other words, before we fall. Then we have God’s promise that we shall receive the grace, which is strength and help at the right time, so we can stand after we have overcome all things. (Hebrews 4:16; Ephesians 6:13.).” Pray for each other as you go through the battles of this week.
