Sermon Discussion Questions
READ Colossians 2:6-23
1. If you were to view your life as a building, what kind of a building would it be?
2. (6-7) Zac introduced us to the foundations of the building last Sunday. Describe verses 6-7 in your own words.
3. Look over verses 8-15 again. There’s a definite distinction here between a life or a building filled with or characterized by the world and one filled or characterized by Christ. As you look at the various rooms in your building, which rooms are ones that you haven’t Jesus to be in charge of?
4. Paul uses the following verbs to describe Christ’s actions in your life if you’re a Christian: you’ve been filled (9); you’ve been spiritually set apart for God (circumcised is the verb Paul uses) in verse 11; you’ve been buried and raised with Him (12); you’ve been made alive by Christ and forgiven at His cross (14). We struggle to think we have any power to change or act against the world at all, but what do all these verbs actually say about your life now?
5. And what has happened to the forces behind the world (15)? What can they do to you that is outside the will and the salvation of God?
6. If all these things are true, and if the forces of darkness exert their influence among religiously minded people, what do they seek to do and how should you resist them (16-23)?
7. Where does your life really come from, depend upon, and look forward to in the situations you are facing right now?
8. Thank God that as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, you can walk in Him.
