God is working in Ostroh, Ukraine! And we have been blessed to participate in small ways with the young adults here.
While Ostroh does have an interesting age-old history, the city is not currently noteable in big important ways. Yet, God is obviously here! To witness the maturity and spiritual sincerity of the young adult Ostroh Academy CRU volunteer leaders here has been amazing. Sadly, this maturity has, in many cases, been born out of very difficult circumstances, deaths and loss created by a country at war.
Just one example of many stories from these impressive young adult volunteers comes from Alina. She shared Thursday of her family moving away from their eastern Ukraine home and the heartbreak of losing her hopes and dreams when that happened. She lost her home, her friends and everything important to her, but in their place, God is strengthening her relationship with Him, blessing her with wisdom and molding her with desire to go out into Ostroh and Ukraine to tell others about Jesus and to disciple other young adults in the city.
Along with witnessing the work of the young adults here, it has also been my privilege and true pleasure to work alongside Jeannie Tabb and to observe how she connects with locals through her English Clubs and establishes relationships as a basis for spreading the gospel. The students really respond to her methods. She has such a good way with them and manages us teachers well at the same time. I consider myself newly blessed to know her, and she will be an inspiration for my life going forward.
Finally, it has been fun to meet all of the Ukrainian students who so eagerly arrive nightly to learn English! They have accepted us kindly and have been so friendly, participating and working hard every evening.
We have grown to love this place and pray that God will continue to work in these lives which have dealt with so much fear and loss at such young ages. A piece of my heart will remain here, and, “Pray for Ukraine,” has become very personal for all of us.
